"good experience and first hammam in Morocco, had one in Turkey before but this one was better. went as a couple you have to wear paper boxers and a revealing small paper thong as a woman. however you get a dressing down and are not in a room with others. Be prepared to get scrubbed down thoroughly :) my favourite part was the massage after the scrubbing and you get a traditional Moroccan tea which was nice."

How the Marrakech Hammam Experience Works
Four steps from your riad to the steam room and back — about three hours, door-to-door.
Pickup From Your Riad or Hotel
A driver collects you from one of six set points across central Marrakech — Koutoubia, Bab Agnaou, the Majorelle pharmacy, Cinéma Colisée, AMANI Hotel, or Hotel Al Kabir. A few minutes' walk from most riads in the medina or Gueliz.
Steam & Black-Soap Cleanse
Change into a disposable paper undergarment, enter the warm steam room, and let the savon noir (Moroccan black olive soap) soften your skin for 10–15 minutes — the traditional first step of the hammam ritual.
Kessa Scrub & Massage
A trained attendant uses the kessa exfoliating glove to scrub away dead skin head-to-toe, followed by a rose-water rinse and a 30–45 minute Moroccan oil massage in a private treatment room.
Mint Tea & Drop-Off
Relax with a glass of traditional sweet mint tea in the spa's lounge before your driver returns you to your accommodation. Total experience: about three hours, door-to-door.

What Our Guests Say
"Everything was great! We have a really good experience, the place and the people were really nice."
"It was great. They picked us up in a really nice van, then we had a relaxing time in the hammam, with some exfoliating and mascaras, finally we had a full body massage, done by professional women. I did this with my girlfriend and we recommend it."
"Everything was perfect. The pickup, bath and the massage. Great experience. Will surely recommend to everyone."
"Ashraf was a fantastic guide and kept me up to date on where and when to meet. The experience was top notch and I came out feeling refreshed and totally relaxed. A brilliant way to spend a couple of hours and I would highly recommend it."

"Excellent, particularly our driver Achrad! At first the steam felt a bit overwhelming but the therapists came back and forth every 5-10 mins to apply more scrubs and lotions on your skin ( just be careful not to slip and you can keep your knickers/ pants on if you like just be sure to pack fresh for afterwards). Then the full body massage was the best I’ve ever had. Would recommend!"
"A super experience, very interesting. Transport was super. The gentleman was in constant contact with us The experience itself was also great. You can travel back in time and enjoy a Moroccan bath and a super relaxing full-body massage We recommend it 10/10 – we booked the trip the day before and everything was great"

"That was really really good. The driver very nice and welcoming and while he led me to the spa he’s been talking to me about morocco and also suggesting me places. Then the massage: nice cozy place, very intimate and traditional yet modern. I really enjoyed, the masseuse is super skilled. Highly recommended 🙏❤️"

Frequently Asked Questions About the Marrakech Hammam Experience
Everything you need to know before booking your traditional Moroccan hammam and spa.
The featured Marrakech: Traditional Moroccan Hammam with pickup starts from $51 per person. The price includes the traditional Moroccan hammam ritual, a relaxing massage, mint tea, and round-trip hotel pickup and drop-off in central Marrakech. Other hammam experiences across the medina range from around $28 to $113 per person depending on duration, spa standard, and extras.
Your booking includes entry to a traditional Moroccan hammam, the full hammam ritual (steam, black-soap cleanse, kessa exfoliation), a follow-on massage, drinking water, a glass of traditional mint tea, and pickup/drop-off from your accommodation in central Marrakech. Food is not included.
The featured experience runs about 2 hours from start to finish — roughly 45–60 minutes of hammam and scrub, then 30–45 minutes of massage and rest. Add 30–60 minutes total for hotel transfers depending on your riad's location. Allow about 3 hours from pickup to drop-off.
A hammam is a Moroccan steam-bath ritual that's part personal hygiene and part social custom — locals have used hammams weekly for centuries. The ritual: warm rinse, then black olive-soap (savon noir) is applied and left to soften the skin in the steam room, then a kessa exfoliating glove is used to scrub away dead skin. A clay mask, hair wash, and cold rinse usually follow. The hammam itself is purification; the massage afterwards is the wellness add-on most tourist hammams pair with it.
You'll be given a disposable paper undergarment to wear inside the hammam — typically paper briefs for men and a small paper bikini/thong for women. You undress in a private changing area and change into the paper underwear before entering the steam room. Bring nothing valuable; lockers are provided. See our what-to-expect guide for full prep details.
It depends on the venue. The featured tour and most tourist-oriented hammams in Marrakech use private treatment rooms — you're not in a public bath with strangers. Public neighbourhood hammams (hammam beldi) are gender-segregated communal spaces and a separate cultural experience entirely. Confirm with your specific booking which type you've chosen.
The featured Marrakech hammam offers pickup from six set points across central Marrakech: Koutoubia, Bab Agnaou, Pharmacy and Laboratory Majorelle, Cinéma Colisée, AMANI HOTEL, and Hotel Al Kabir. If your riad is in the medina or Gueliz, one of these points will be within a few minutes' walk. Drop-off is included from the same six points after the experience.
Yes — couples and mixed groups book this experience regularly. The hammam itself is segregated by gender (separate rooms for men and women), and treatments happen in private. Couples meet again in the relaxation area for mint tea. If you specifically want a women-only experience with a female therapist, see our hammam vs spa comparison — some venues are explicitly women-only.
Tipping is customary in Marrakech hammams. A 50–100 MAD tip (around $5–10) to the masseuse or attendant who performed the scrub is appropriate for a $50 service. Bring small dirham notes — change is sometimes hard to come by in the spa. The driver doing pickup typically does not expect a tip.
Tourist hammams that operate on GetYourGuide are vetted and use single-use paper underwear, fresh towels per guest, and sanitised slippers. Black soap is applied from a sealed jar, not a shared tub. Standards at higher-end spas exceed many Western spa equivalents. If hygiene matters most to you, choose a venue with a 4.7+ rating and 100+ recent reviews — the featured tour qualifies.
No — the featured hammam tour explicitly states it is not suitable for pregnant women. The high-heat steam environment can be unsafe in pregnancy. Some Marrakech spas offer pregnancy-safe alternatives (lower-temperature treatments, prenatal massage) — you would need to book those separately.
Bring your passport (required for identification at the spa), a hair tie if you have long hair, and small dirham notes for tipping. You do NOT need to bring towels, soap, exfoliating gloves, or slippers — these are all provided. Leave valuables at your accommodation; lockers are basic. See our what-to-expect guide for a fuller packing list.
Marrakech is hot year-round, but the hammam itself is the same temperature regardless of season. The best practical time is your first or second day in Marrakech — the steam, scrub, and massage are an ideal recovery after a long flight, before tackling the medina's markets. Late afternoon slots (around 4–6pm) are popular because they bridge sightseeing and dinner. See our best time guide for a full breakdown by season.
